Call For Artists & Craft Persons

The Greater Richmond Convention Center (GRCC) is looking for artists and craft persons in the Richmond Region who would like to display, for sale on a temporary basis, their work in the Commonwealth of Virginia’s largest meeting and exhibition facility. The GRCC was built as a result of regional cooperation between the City of Richmond and the surrounding counties of Henrico, Chesterfield and Hanover. The sheer size and central location of the GRCC make it one of the most desirable meeting destinations in the Mid-Atlantic region. At approximately 700,000-square-feet, the facility sits on 5 and 1/2 city blocks. Interior accommodations include 178,159 square feet of exhibit space, 32 meeting rooms and the 30,550-square foot Grand Ballroom. On an annual basis the GRCC hosts over 400 events and is visited over 300,000 times a year by local, regional and national guests.
The GRCC has 22 glass enclosed display cases located throughout the facility. Each case is
approximately 28” high x 70” wide. One end of the case is 11.5” deep and it scales down to 8” deep at the other end. A glass ledge sits at the bottom of each case.

Eligibility:
Open to all artists and craft persons who reside or have business located in the City of Richmond and the counties of Henrico, Chesterfield and Hanover. Artists must be 18 years of age or older. All works must be original and have been created in the last five years. Works previously displayed in the GRCC are not eligible to be redisplayed. The GRCC reserves the right, at its unfettered discretion to make all curatorial decisions, including which works will be displayed in the facility. Only one case will be granted to each artist or craft person.

Consideration will be given on a first-come first-served basis with priority given to those artists or craft persons whose work is unique in nature to the Richmond Region. In an effort to increase minority and disadvantaged participation, a minimum of fifty percent of the cases will be first reserved for minority and disadvantaged artists or craft persons. If these cases are not utilized by minority or disadvantaged artists or craft persons within 30 days of being made available, then they will be offered to other artists or craft persons.

Term:
Works will be displayed for four months.

Fee:
There is a $25.00 application fee and a 25% commission to be paid to the GRCC on all works sold as a result of the display.

Shipping:
The work must be hand delivered. The artist or craft person is responsible for the cost of delivering and picking up the work.

Insurance:
The GRCC will not be responsible for any work displayed in the facility. The display cases are lockable. The facility does have security cameras located throughout the premises and there is a minimum of one security guard roving at all times. The artist or craft person will be responsible for maintaining any insurance to protect against damage, vandalism or theft.

Purchasing:
Each piece will be labeled by the GRCC with the title (if any), the artist’s name’, the sale price and instructions for purchasing the piece. Work will only be available to be purchased through the GRCC Finance office while on display at the GRCC. At the end of the display term, the artist or craft person will be responsible for picking up any unsold works.
